YK.com Sells to China for Just Under $1 Million

Over the weekend, reports emerged that the valuable two-letter .COM had been sold to a Chinese investor. Jamie Zoch first broke the news via his Twitter account, confirming late on Saturday night that the domain had indeed been sold to China. The domain has been brokered by industry expert and owner of GetYourDomain.com, Larry Fischer.

Larry was the co-founder of one of the first ever domain parking companies, SmartName.com, which is now owned by GoDaddy. He has also been involved in tens of millions of dollars worth of domain transactions, including Home.com, Chat.com and Messenger.com.

As the broker of YK.com, Larry was tasked with finding a buyer for the name on behalf of the owners, a Canadian company called Tamarack Computers, based in Yellowknife (often abbreviated to YK). After successfully brokering a sale, we asked Larry to comment on the sale.

As is often the case with high value domain sales, an exact price cannot be revealed, but Larry did confirm that the domain did sell for "slightly below 7 figures". Whilst Larry couldn't comment further, we can speculate that this was somewhere in the region of $900,000 - $950,000.

The buyer is thought to be a client of Chinese domain name marketplace, 4.CN. According to a tweet from industry expert George Kirikos, there are now 22 two-letter .COMs owned in Canada after the sale of YK.com, with Chinese registrants now owning 21.9% of all two-letter .COMs.
